Strawberries - Plate (500g)

Strawberries are delicious when eaten fresh, served with ice cream, blended in a milkshake or added to a scrumptious a fruit tart! Refreshing and sweet, they are the ultimate natural treat!

How do we make sure we provide top quality strawberries?

Simple - we grow them ourselves! Sam draws on three generations of horticultural experience to grow strawberries that are sweet and delicious. When we are picking, we make sure the strawberries are a full red colour and bright (this indicates that they were harvested at the right time), and also that they are bright, plump and firm (these all indicate that the strawberry will be at full flavour). We also check for surface damage – even the tiniest cut or bruise can result in a much more rapid process of deterioration!

Where do we source our strawberries from?

Many of our strawberries come direct from our farm - planted, cultivated and hand-picked by Sam and the team. If our own strawberries are unavailable, there are over 110 strawberry growers in Victoria, and we try to source as locally as possible, including from the Yarra Valley region (where 90% of Victorian strawberries are grown). When the Victorian strawberry season comes to an end, we source strawberries from experienced growers in northern New South Wales and Queensland.

What is the best way to keep strawberries?

Like all berries, strawberries are very perishable. Take care not to leave at room temperature or in direct sunlight overly long, as this will cause them to spoil. Strawberries keep fresh in the fridge for a couple of days. Discard any berries that have started to turn – they will contaminate the others.

Strawberries nutritional information

Strawberries are a fantastic source of vitamin C and folate, but it is their high flavonoid content, in particular antrhocyanidins, that makes them a highly valuable nutrient source. They are a great protector against inflammation, heart disease and cancer.

Strawberries seasonal information

Strawberries are available all year, and the Victorian supply peaks in summer.
