Passionfruit

A native of Brazil, passionfruit have a wonderfully fragrant juicy pulp. They are brilliant when eaten fresh, delicious in fruit flans and ice-creams, and delightful in pavolas and cheesecakes.

How do we make sure we provide top quality passionfruit?

We make sure the passionfruit is smooth (not wrinkled) and heavy for their size (this indicates juiciness and freshness, as passionfruit lose moisture over time). We also make sure they have a deep purple, yellow or red colour (depending on variety). You’ll know when you are getting passionfruit straight from our farm, they have an appetizing purple colour and a delicious passionfruit aroma. What’s better, they’re delivered only days after harvest!

Where do we source our passionfruit from?

When we have them in season, we source our passionfuit from vines on our farm (they grow on Passion flowers, hence the name of their fruit). They grow well in our fertile, well-drained soil. Their season starts in mid-February and continues until about May. When we don’t have passionfruit on our trees, we source them from other suppliers from around Melbourne. If Victorian supply is short, we source them from the coastal areas of Queensland, or the New South Wales North Coast.

What is the best way to keep passionfruit?

Passionfruit store best in an airtight plastic bag in the fridge (optimal storage conditions are at 7°C-10°C and 90%-98% relative humidity). Don’t store them for too long (maximum 4 weeks), as they are susceptible to water (and therefore flavour) loss over time.
