Lemons

The bittersweet taste of a lemon is incredibly versatile; it can be used as a garnish for seafood or drinks, made into a lemon meringue dessert, or used in a salad dressing. You can also use the juice as a natural cleaner – to remove odours from hands, pots and pans!

How do we make sure we provide top quality lemons?

We make sure the lemon has a bright yellow colour, a plump shape and has no signs of skin decay (blemishes on the surface indicate more extensive damage within the lemon’s flesh). We also pick lemons that are heavy for their size – weight is an indication of juice content.

Where do we source our lemons from?

Lemons are a temperate zone crop (although the original wild varieties were found in the tropical regions of the Malay Archipelago). They grow well in Victoria’s temperate climate, and we source most of our lemons from either from around the Melbourne Metropolitan Area, the Murray Valley or the Sunraysia districts.

What is the best way to keep lemons?

Lemons store best at 15°C and 85%-95% relative humidity. You can either store them at room temperature, or in the fridge (where they’ll keep a little longer).

Lemon nutritional information

Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C (that’s why they’re often used to prevent the onset of the cold). They are also a solid source of vitamin B6 and dietary fibre.

Lemon seasonal information

Lemons are available throughout the warmer months. During the winter time, we source our lemons from overseas.
