Coconut

Coconuts are natives to Micronesia, and can be found on most islands and tropical regions that border the Pacific Ocean. They are great for creating coconut sauces, coconut dips, curries, cocktails and coconut cream.

How do we make sure we provide top quality coconuts?

Coconuts should feel heavy for their size, so this is the first check we perform when choosing fresh coconuts. The sloshing water inside is also a good indicator of freshness. We check to make sure that there is no leakage from the top or 'eyes', and that there is no mould or mildew on the surface.

Where do we source our coconuts from?

Coconuts grow best in tropical climates, where there is abundant rainfall and warm temperatures. We source our coconuts all the way from Far North Queensland, the area that has the best coconut growing conditions in Australia. They grow on coconut palms which grow up to 25 meters tall. It takes about a year for the nuts to mature once the palm flowers.

What is the best way to keep coconuts?

Coconuts are best stored in a cool, dry, dark area. Once husked and cut, they store best in the fridge (optimal storage conditions are at 0°C and 90%-100% relative humidity).
