Apples - Royal Gala - Lge

The mouthwatering taste of a Royal Gala signals the start of the apple season. Fresh & crispy, Royal Galas are a fantastic way to welcome the start of the apple season! Their sweet flavour is ideal for enjoying fresh, or turning into an apple pie, apple sauce or adding to a fruit salad.

How do we make sure we provide top quality Royal Gala apples?

The Royal Gala should ideally have a pale red blush, upon a yellow/cream coloured skin.

We make sure that the Royal Gala apples we choose for your box are firm with a smooth, clear skin. We avoid Royal Galas with soft or dark spots. We test the integrity of the Royal Gala by holding the apple in the palm of our hand and feeling that the apple is solid and heavy (avoiding apples that are soft and light). We avoid Royal Galas that wrinkle when a thumb is gently run across the skin (this is an indicator that it has been in storage for too long, or has not properly stored). We also check for “russeting” - a rough, browning condition usually found at the stem end of the apple.

Where do we source our Royal Gala apples?

Royal Gala apples are grown in all six Australian states. We try to source locally grown apples (from around the Bacchus Marsh region), and if local supply is low, we source from other Victorian locations such as the Goulburn Valley, Harcourt, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland.

What is the best way to keep Royal Gala apples?

Apples are best stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and kept away from strong odour food to prevent flavour absorption.
