Pink Lady apples (also known as a Cripps Pink) have their origins in Australia. They are a cross between a Lady William and a Golden Delicious, and are widely acclaimed as one of the best eating apples - a refreshingly sweet taste, a fine white texture, and the trademark'Pink Lady crunch!'

The Pink Lady should have a pink to reddish pink blush over a yellow background, a crisp firm creamy white flesh. The taste should be deliciously sweet, and slightly tart.

How do we make sure we provide top quality Pink Lady apples?

We make sure that the Pink Lady apples we choose for your box are firm with a smooth, clear skin. We avoid Pink Lady apples with soft or dark spots. We test the integrity of the Pink Lady by holding the apple in the palm of our hand and feeling that the apple is solid and heavy (avoiding apples that are soft and light). We avoid Pink Lady apples that wrinkle when a thumb is gently run across the skin (this is an indicator that it has been in storage for too long, or has not properly stored). We also check for “russeting” - a rough, browning condition usually found at the stem end of the apple.

Where do we source our Pink Lady apples?

Pink Lady apples are grown in all six Australian states. We try to source locally grown apples (from around the Bacchus Marsh region), and if local supply is low, we source from other Victorian locations such as the Goulburn Valley, Harcourt, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland.

What is the best way to keep Pink Lady apples?

Apples are best stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and kept away from strong odour food to prevent flavour absorption.
